CERDA is responsible for a couple of courses on probabilisic modeling, risk and decision analysis with the emphasis on civil engineering applications at Master, Post Master and PhD levels. It also offers opportunities for students to conduct their Master and PhD projects. Throughout the courses and the projects the students are encouraged to aquire specialized skills on the abovementioned topics but also general competance on managing engineering risks integrating different expertises on a unified decision platform.
11376 - Probabilistic Modeling in Civil Enigneering Master level, Spring semester
The goal of the course is for Master students in civil engineering to learn the fundamental ideas behind and steps for reliability-based design for civil infrastructure. During the course the students will have the opportunity to reflect the basics of statistics and probability. Based on these, advanced knowledge and techniques on probabilitic modeling necessary for reliability-based design will be provided. A group exercise - designing a bridge made of spaghetti with a given target reliability - is a vehicle for deep understainding of the topics taught during the lectures. The students who successfully complete the course will aquire a firm basis for the reliabiltity-based design, which has become a stardard design approach in practice. (5 ECTS points)
11620 - Engineering Risk and Decision Analysis PhD/Master level, three weeks in June
This course introduces the basic concepts and practical techniques on structural reliability analysis, risk and decision analysis in engineering applications. Through the course, participants will acquire knowledge and skills on the abovementioned analyses, which serve as a basis for advanced study and state-of-the-art research related to, but not restricted to, structural dynamics, probabilistic mechanics, structural reliability analysis, risk assessment, and engineering decision making under uncertainty. (5 ECTS points, open university)
Probability-based Engineering Analysis and Design
Probability and risk are becoming common terms in different fields in engineering and a common language to communicate over different fields. This course provides participants with a plenty of application examples of probability-based analysis and design in engieering especially in offshore and civil enigneering. For this end experts in different fields are invited as guest lecturers.
11B05 - Fire Risk Management Post Master level, Spring semester
This course aims at providing participants with ways to make rational fire risk assessment and management in the build enviroment. This course consitis of three modules: (1) Fire risk modeling; (2) probabilistic risk modeling and decision analysis; (3) Group work. The course is conducted by a close cordination between fire engineering group and our group, which provides the participants with a unique opportunity to seemlessly address the knowledge on fire into a probability-based risk and decision framework.
